lexiDEX

lexiDEX provides a fun and intuitive way for students and people of all ages to build a strong vocabulary and a deep understanding and appreciation of language.

Whenever a student comes across a word or expression that is new to them, or that they are not sure about, or that just interests them, they can create a record for it in lexiDEX.

They can then add any number of notes to that record relating to any aspect of the expression. These aspects could be definitions, notes about different meanings, pronunciation, spelling, fun facts or anything that strikes the student as interesting or unusual.

These notes can also be used to identify and define relationships with other expressions that the student has created.

Students can also create collections of related expressions based on a particular topic or subject.
Teachers can create class lists to share; prompting students to explore particular expressions.
In turn students can create reports on expressions that they can share with the teacher and other students.

The ambition is to engage and empower students by giving them a real sense of ownership and control over their vocabulary. It’s also about giving student the space to explore and understand how language is constructed and the subtle and nuance of language in different contexts. Importantly, it also gives students a space to find what is significant to them personally. Which in turn makes it more meaningful and memorable.
